About Vietnamese mango

What do you know about the mango? Nowadays, fresh mango has become one of the most popular snacks in the world. It is also sold in the form of sweet, dried slices, and as a fruit juice. They all taste delicious and exotic. In Vietnam, mango is used as an ingredient in numerous dishes and has numerous health benefits.

Here you can see mango trees everywhere: on plantations, and alongside the roads and rivers. Most of the mango trees are in the middle and southeastern parts of the country. By volume, Vietnam is the tenth-biggest mango exporter in the world.

Besides the harvesting of the fruit, many Vietnamese plant mango trees as decoration. Traveling in the northeast provinces, you often see them around houses and Buddhist temples.

What kinds of mango are found in Vietnam?

About 11 sorts of mango are grown in Vietnam, and they differ from the varieties found in Thailand and Indonesia, due to their soft texture and sweetness. The mangoes grown in every province have individual features and uniqueness. 

The most popular kind is called Hoa Loc, from Tien Giang province. We use this variety in our Mr. Viet dried fruits collection. It is special due to its dense pulp and light skin. 

The most unusual sort is Xoài Úc, which has a pink skin and looks like a peach. It tastes very sweet and juicy; Vietnamese really love Xoài Úc mangoes.

Xoài Thanh Ca is the most delicious variety. It has a unique texture, with soft flesh. It is more expensive, due to its rarity and spicy taste.

Export of mango from Vietnam

Batches of mangoes are exported from Vietnam before they are ripe. The best conditions for the mango ripening process is a high, stable temperature. 

So there is a risk that during export shipment, mangoes may lose their tastiness and health benefits due to varying storage temperatures. 

That’s why dried mangoes have increased in popularity; they need no special export conditions. Once it has been dried, the fruit retains all its goodness.
