Tea has been a vital part of Vietnamese culture for thousands of years. And nowadays, you may see the wide variety of the ways Vietnamese people drink it and use tea sets. Due to many different occasions tea is used at and many styles of enjoying tea, the tea sets are different in size and materials. In this article, we want to show you diverse of Vietnamese tea sets.
Teapot and tea set in general is one of the most important things that help to brew the best cup of Vietnamese tea.
Vietnamese tea set includes 1 large teapot with a handle, 1 big teacup (optional), and 1-6 small teacups, and saucers. The large teacup is used for tea infusion to make tea color in each small teacup the same. If you don’t have a big teacup, pour a tea into each small cup. Tea sets are chosen according to the number of drinkers. For instance, for 1 person – a 70-120ml teapot, for two people – a 150-220ml teapot, for 4-6 people – a 250ml teapot.
Materials that are used to make tea set affect the aroma of tea. Different materials suit particular tea types.
Pottery tea set. It was the first material used to make tea sets, and it is believed to be the best option. Vietnamese often use pottery tea set to brew oolong tea and black tea.
Porcelain tea set. Tea sets made from porcelain are quite widespread in Vietnam nowadays. They are white and used to make green tea.
Glass tea set is mainly used for herbal tea.
There are also wooden, rose quartz, and copper tea sets.
Actually, Vietnamese teapots and teacups are not the same size. Teapot’s medium size is 9 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height. The teacups are nearly 6 cm in diameter and 3 cm in height. Small cups often serve for hot tea.
Vietnamese tea drinkers often choose tea sets according to the time of the year. For example, in autumn and winter they select a teapot with a hard and thick shell. It will help to retain heat better and keep the tea warm longer. In summer, they will probably choose a thinner teapot.
