Types of tea in Vietnam
The most popular tea in Vietnam is green tea. The Vietnamese really love it, and you can find it everywhere. Markets, shops, and supermarkets throughout the country offer opportunities to try unique drinks.
Here are five of the most popular Vietnamese teas.
Shan Snow green tea
This tea grows only in the northeast provinces, in the mountains. It is always collected very early, and there is a special method of collection which retains its characteristic flavor.
Shan Snow green tea has a strong taste, reminiscent of pu’er. But unlike pu’er it tastes of flowers and honey. It has a lot of “silver tips” - these are the topmost leaves of a tea plant, the very best source of quality tea. They are full of vitamins and minerals and make the taste more flavourful.
Lotus tea
Lotus tea is a unique part of Vietnamese culture. In the past it was called the “Tea of the King”, because it was served only to royalty. It is a rather aromatic drink with exotic, fruity notes.
Classic oolong
This is one of the most famous drinks in Vietnam. Classic oolong is full of calcium, iodine, and vitamins. Gourmets love it for its expressive flavor and aftertaste.
In Vietnam, many types of oolong are grown, with differences in taste and aroma.
Milk oolong
The tourists’ favorite: quite soft and light, almost without any bitterness. Being rich in vitamins and minerals, milk oolong is the best choice for the immune system.
Artichoke tea
This tea variety is loved for its grassy and fruity taste. Artichoke tea is a tonic. It is good for drinking in the morning, to wake up and start the day.
